CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Homeowners say if they know their neighbors, they feel safer. Tuesday night neighborhoods in Charlotte did just that.

National Night Out is a nationwide campaign aimed at connecting the community and law enforcement to fight crime and drugs.

Mayor Anthony Foxx kicked off the event in Hidden Valley Tuesday night. Madison Park also held its National Night Out which featured food, music, and games.

Officers say they see a difference in crime rates in neighborhoods where residents are involved. They say that is why it is important to stay connected with your neighbors after National Night Out festivities end.
