Neighbors like Gabriella Spagnuolo says the construction of 240 apartments smack in the middle of the Catawba River Plantation subdivision in Northwest Charlotte is a bad idea.
Spagnuolo says "The type of people that would actually move into these apartments at $800 a month, what could we expect?"

The developer says the complex will add value to the neighborhood. City council member James Mitchell can see both sides, while neighbors worry this new complex will send their community downhill.

Homeowners like Mike Craft met with the developer Tuesday night, asking questions and voicing concerns. Craft says he picks up trash on his way home every night, and now he's afraid the apartments will increase trash, traffic and crowds.

The school down the street was built a few years ago, and since then, the student body has more than doubled in size. Now with this new construction up the street, neighbors are afraid that number could go up.

The rent of the apartments will be anywhere from $800 to $1100 per month. The developer says he hopes the residents of the apartments will eventually buy homes in the subdivision.

The plot of land is zoned for either an apartment complex, or a hundred and ten more homes. City Council will vote on the apartment complex proposal in November.
