CHARLOTTE, NC -- Red, white and blue... and lots of smiles at the Hickory Grove 4th of July Parade.  Churches, community organizations and schools walked and danced their way through the event.

Organizers say it's Charlotte's oldest Independence Day community celebration.  Neighbors say they love the Americana feel.   "To enjoy the good old fashioned 4th of July family fun, the children's smiles and laughter, the parents and families enjoying things together, and of course patriotism and love of our country," said Hickory Grove resident Connie Knight.

After the parade, political candidates lined up to speak to residents.
