CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Dylan Sphavmixay's favorite part of "Diary of Wimpy Kid: Dog Days" is "When he was on the high dive and his pants was stuck on the high dive," he said. The nine year old watched the movie today with David Lieberman at Phillip's Place Cinemas in SouthPark. Moviegoers in the Charlotte area say empoyees now use security wands like these and search their bags following the movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colorado. "Certainly I'd rather them check and be able to avoid something like that here," Lieberman said. Regal Entertainment Group won't reveal specific details of their security plans. In a statement, Vice President Russ Nunley said,"On certain occasions security personnel wand guests during a sneak preview of a film not yet released." He went on to say, "Regal reserves the right to inspect South Charlotte resident Max DeLuca said, "I feel like its kind of unnecessary. After the shooting so recently, I don't know if it will happen anytime soon, but I feel like it might be invasive towards people." While some aren't happy about the changes, David and Dylan aren't fazed. They plan to continue their summer time tradition of ditching their couch for stadium seating."I think its good if it makes people feel safer, it's important," said Lieberman. Regal Entertainment Group also says movie goers should expect restrictions over character attire and accessories at their theaters.
