Officer-Involved Shooting Stemmed from Traffic StopMOUNT HOLLY, N.C.-- What started out as a traffic stop for speeding resulted in bullets flying, leaving one suspect injured and two officers on administrative leave. According to reports, a Nissan sedan was clocked by a Mount Holly Police Officer going 80 mph in a 35 mph zone. The sedan was pulled over by two separate patrol cars on NC 273 near downtown. Jmar Demontae Davis, 27, of Charlotte, was driving the vehicle. When the officers approached him, they spotted a gun in his possession. Shots were fired by Officer Taylor Hager and Officer Darryl Barnes, striking Davis several times. The officers gave medical aid to Davis before emergency crews arrived and transported him to Gaston Memorial Hospital where he is in stable but serious condition. Both Officers have been placed on paid administrative leave during an investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Mount Holly Police Department, which is standard procedure. Officer Hager is a K-9 Officer who has been with the Police Department for 7 years. Officer Barnes is a Patrol Officer who has been with the Police Department for approximately 5 years. |
