CHARLOTTE, NC – Mike Huckabee knows something about old-fashioned politicking.

The former Arkansas Governor and 2008 Republican Presidential candidate was in Statesville Sunday.

He’s here to raise money for a local Christian school, but make no doubt about it; he’s keeping a close eye on President Obama and 2012.

Why?  Huckabee says he believes Americans are concerned about the growing debt.

“The expenses that this country has incurred through ridiculous, porkulus spending, the fact that Obamacare was shoved down the throats of the American people and they clearly did not want it and still don't,” he says.

But President Obama won North Carolina in 2008.

And Democrats clearly want to put Charlotte and our state in the spotlight, bringing their convention here next year.

Huckabee says.. that’s OK.

“It’s a great thing for the economy of the state if they host a convention. I don't know if it necessarily moves the voters, I think issues do, but I think it's certainly something you would congratulate Charlotte for being able to land,” he says.

So will Huckabee run again?

He calls running a campaign a “grueling ordeal,” but one that’s worth it.

He tells me he'll make a decision this summer.

“It's a decision that I’ve got to make very thoughtfully and prayerfully and it's not one I just jump into,” Huckabee says.

But no doubt he’s already begun setting the stage, right here in our backyard.
