CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Take away summer vacation to help kids do better in school?

Thursday night, parents in West Charlotte got their first chance to hear Project Lift's proposal to create year round schools.

The organization says it will close the achievement gap by cutting out long summer vacations.

Summer is usually a time when many students fall behind in their studies. Many parents still are not sold on the idea. Child care is a major concern for parents.

If schools switched to a year round calender, kids would get three weeks off every nine weeks.
