CHARLOTTE, NC- A new transportation service for teens starts next month in Charlotte. Owners say it's for kids in dangerous or compromising situations. But some parents say it's too close to a designated driver scenario. "It's not a drunk driving service. It's not. That's not what this is intended for. It's intended to provide an out... give a teenager an out," said Andrew Horsey, owner of Got To Go. Horsey says parties or hanging out with friends can turn ugly when drugs or alcohol are involved. He says his $9.99 dollars a month service can step in when teens are uncomfortable calling their parents. "Our text-based service allows them to contact our driver. Our driver texts them back and determines the location where they're located. At that point, they go pick them up," Horsey. Mothers Against Drunk Driving state executve director LaRonda Scott supports the service. "Car crashes are the number one killer of teens and we're seeing that about one-third of them are alcohol-related. So, we have to be concerned with if this service is not available, what could happen to them?" said Scott. Some parents say they think this a terrible idea that will encourage teens to do bad things. While other parents see it on the flip side and say it addresses realities that teens face. "It's an option. A last minute, last resort option," said Carmen Quan. "Some stranger is picking them up and bringing them wherever they want without having any type of adult supervision or parental guidance to determine where they're going," said Robbie Gauci. Horsey says parental consent is not required, but he encourages it. He also says Got To Go drivers get background checks and undergo drug testing.
