Pineville Police Say Armed Robbery At Mall Was RandomPINEVILLE, N.C.--Surveillance cameras, private guards and a regular presence of police are some of the visible signs of security at Carolina Place in Pineville. But, the majority of the measures are behind the scenes. The mall has what it calls a customized public safety plan. Pineville Police say they work closely with the mall, "They do have a dedicated person on the camera 24-7, officers on foot and vehicles circulating to find anything out of the ordinary" said Pineville Police Department's Lt. Corey Copley Out of the ordinary is exactly how Pineville Police describe the armed robbery and brief kidnapping in the parking lot between the R.E.I. and the Dillards stores on Tuesday night. Before they were caught and arrested, three thieves got away with cash and shoes. No one was injured. Police say there has been no increase in violent crime at the mall. Investigators say shoppers should always be aware of their surroundings. Fort Mill Resident Mariana Fahmy said, "It is, it is annoying." Fahmy took that advice one step further. She only carries her driver's license, social security and debit cards. Fahmy said,"I stopped carry(ing) cash at all cause you never know what's going on." Critics say security measures in place at shopping malls are designed to respond to attacks rather than prevent them. |
