Double-Shooting Outside Chesterfield Co. Courthouse
CHESTERFIELD, SC - Police say it was around 12:30 in the afternoon when Curtis Gorney pulled up in a truck and started shooting. His targets - 21-year-old Olivia Weaver and her stepfather Donnie Nolan. Weaver and Nolan were sitting in a car outside the Chesterfield County Courthouse. "It was just crazy, pretty much. Why would somebody just shoot somebody in broad daylight, like just right here?" asked resident Travis Hinson. Gorny claimed to be the father of Weaver's baby... and the two were scheduled to be in court for a paternity test. The child wasn't there. Weaver was hit twice. Once in the stomach and once in the face, according to police. Nolan was hit in the shoulder. Both are in stable condition at a hospital in Florence. People living behind the courthouse say the gunfire was so loud, at first they thought it was happening in their front yard. "Didn't know if somebody was gonna be running around, shooting, so I stayed in the house," says resident Jennifer Callaway. It took a 12-mile chase through Chesterfield County for police to catch Gorney in Pageland. They say he fired several shots at police cars before he was pushed into a ditch. Neighbors say.. they're glad he's behind bars. "Oh yeah, you feel a lot better, but I'm still a little nervous," Callaway says. Chesterfield police have turned the case over to SLED.
