LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C.-- Sheriff deputies arrested a man accused of scamming a family out of money.

Tommy Mack Small, Jr., 32, of Asheboro was arrested Friday and charged with felony obtaining property by false pretense and misdemeanor larceny.

According to a report, Small approached a Vale family claiming to be a state worker with extra gravel in his truck he could put in their driveway for $120.

After receiving the money, detectives say Small asked the family to move cars out of the driveway, during which time he took another $100 from the same cabinet.

Small then left the scene saying he had to go on another job. He was located and arrested a short time later.

The money taken was returned to the family. Small was released on a $2,500 bond.
