CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Traffic was moving once again at the intersection of North Sharon Amity and Albemarle Roads in East Charlotte after a deadly crash ahead of Renee Toon. "That could have been me. I haven't been able to sleep. I haven't been able to sleep," said the East Charlotte Resident.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police say the crash at two o'clock this morning claimed the life of 26 year old Tony Gabriel and a toddler. 24 year old Brittany Massey was taken to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. Police say the driver of a black convertible Ford Mustang with racing stripes and South Carolina license plates sped through a red light and slammed into the Mazda the three were riding in. Surveillance cameras captured the driver stumble away behind a pawn shop.

"To kill two people and you just run off like that  is so so inhumane and insensitive and uncalled for," said Toon. Toon hopes police catch the driver after the very close call. "It's just the grace of God you know that...that wasn't me," she said.

Police are now combing the hit and run driver's car for clues. He has not yet been identified. If you have any information about the car that investigators say frequents Sharon Amity and Central Avenue in East Charlotte, police would like to hear from you.
