CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The search is on for a killer in Charlotte's Grier Heights neighborhood.
It's the third major crime there in three weeks.

A memorial now sits outside the Grier Heights home where someone shot 32 year old Nakio Cousart last night. Police say his death was drug-related and not random. The murder is the second in this East Charlotte neighborhood in two weeks. On April 30, Ronald Martin was killed on his front porch.

Grier Heights Resident Regina Williams said "I just went to one funeral and now I'm going to need to go to another one." Williams knew both murder victims. "We're grieving along with the families. It's hard you know," Williams said.

The murders come as the community has seen success turning things around. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Crime Stats say reported incidents of violent crimes dropped 16-percent in Grier Heights over the last year. Last November, C.M.P.D. opened a new Providence Division in the heart of Grier Heights. It was meant to raise the profile and importance of this long time working class neighborhood.

"The killing just gotta stop. It needs to stop," Williams said. Williams said her neighborhood was finally losing its legacy as one of the most dangerous in the city. While she worries that dubious distinction could make a comeback, she's confident police will make an arrest. Williams said, "I have faith in god that they'll get him, they'll get him."

Detectives are also trying to track down the suspect's getaway vehicle. They say it could be a blue S.U.V.
