Police Seek Help With Cemetery Vandalism Investigation

BESSEMER CITY, NC -- Gaston County Police are asking for the public's assistance after 42 graves were desecrated. According to authorities, it happened on August 10, 2012 at the Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery on N. 13th Street. The suspects overturned granite and marble tombstones throughout the property resulting in more than $6,200.00 in damages.

In July, police received a report of seven graves desecrated. Damages included overturned tombstones and graffiti spray painted on them.


Two individuals were seen on video surveillance cameras entering the graveyard on August 10, 2012. Detectives are attempting to identify and locate the two subjects for questioning.
 
Anyone with information related to these crimes are asked to contact the Gaston County Police Department or Crime Stoppers. Individuals providing information leading to an arrest may be eligible to receive a cash reward up to $1,000.00.
