CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Professional athletes starring in photo shoots is a sign of big business in a billion dollar industry. "How much more accomplished can you have than a basketball player
or a football player or a soccer player. Things like this. Everyone wants to be," said fashion designer Donald Pliner.

Pliner has designed shoes for Shaquille O'Neal. He says men are paying more attention to what they wear now because of what they see on athletes. "That's the name of the game today.Got a name? Let's put a brand on it. You know. Take advantage!" Pliner said.

Bain and Company says men's fashion is the fastest growing sector in the industry
at 14 percent already this year. "Men are paying more attention to the way they look than they ever really have before," said Donald Pliner's Account Executive, Brett Klein.

Houston, Texas Resident Toriano Bryant travelled to Charlotte to meet Pliner. He said making a good first impression is crucial. "Your grooming is very important. That's how you should approach your day and end it," Bryant said.

13 year old Albermarle Resident Ian Simmons said he wears what athlete's do,  especially their shoes,"Cause they're popular I guess," he said. One sign athletes impacting men's fashion is a trend that's here to stay.
