CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Republican's in North Carolina's Senate are trying to eliminate corporate and personal income taxes. But, in order to do that, they've proposed increasing the sales tax from about six to eight percent.

The higher rate would apply to all goods and services including things that are currently exempt like lottery tickets, haircuts, and dental visits.

The grocery tax would also quadruple from 2 to 8 percent. Big purchases like cars and boats will really sustain an impact.

Lawmakers say this is just a concept that serves as a starting point for negoatiations. If implemented, they say it would take several years.
