Rams On The Run In Northwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--They ran down driveways, up hillsides, across roads packed with traffic and in front of Northwest Charlotte Resident Beckie Ellis's car. "And I look and there's these two big horn sheep, goat, whatever, running at my car so I slam on the brakes," she said.

Animal Control scrambled to keep up. They wandered the woods. Peeked over fences. And had a tranquilizer guns at their sides. "Never seen anything like that in Charlotte before and I've lived here for 39 years. My whole life," she said.

Some of the neighbors say that animal control officers started to try to track down the other animals as early as 8 o'clock this morning. But, the search began long befor that, the first call came in at 7 o'clock last night. Animal Control officers were concerned the rams would get hit by a car.

"People think that animal control officers in Charlotte deal with dogs or cats but hey even in Charlotte we can have a ram or two," Ellis said.

Rams are allowed in Mecklenburg County with a permit. An Animal Care and Control spokeswoman says she doesn't know who the rams belong to. If you see the ram that's still on the run, call 311.
