Rash of Convenience Store Robberies
Southwest Charlotte, NC - Kentrell Hill shops at Fast Mart on Tom Hunter Road every day. Hill has become friends with the store clerk, who was robbed at gunpoint late Thursday night. Hill says, "I'm tired of this happening to this guy, he needs some sort or protection over there, there needs to be protection anyway." The clerk was too chaken up to talk on camera but told police the suspect came into the store, holding a pistol, demanded money, then fired a shot into the air. Hill says, "He's a good guy, I don't think this should happen to him, it shouldn't happen to anyone." Police say the suspect ran out of the store with cash, and got in a getaway car. They arrest the driver, Craven Sanders early Friday morning, but the suspect is still on the loose. Customers say this isn't the first time the store has been robbed. Customer Melvin Tyler says, "I try to be careful, and watch my back." Police says this is one of many convenience store robberies over the past few months. Police say one suspect is behind nearly a dozen convenience store robberies including this Kangaroo Express on South Tryon Street. Police say this man in this surveillence video robbed ten convenience stores since May. Including the Gate station on Monroe road twice in one week.
