School Secretary Arrested for Embezzling Funds
LENOIR, N.C. -- A school secretary is accused of taking money from a Caldwell County school.
The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office received a call from the Caldwell County Education Center in reference to making a report of Embezzlement of school funds.
Through the investigation, it was revealed that Collettsville School secretary, Emily Hawkins of Lenoir, made questionable purchases.
Hawkins was immediately terminated from the school. It is estimated that she took over $40,000 from the school.
The secretary has been arrested and charged with ten counts of Embezzlement by Public Officer or Trustee. She is being held on $100,000 secured bond.
Caldwell County Sheriff Alan Jones says, "“I’m Proud to see that two government agencies were able to work close together and stop an employee from taking money from our children within the Caldwell County School System.”
