MATTHEW, NC- The search has stopped, but hope is alive for a puppy thought to be trapped underground in Matthews. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Volunteers showed up to rescue a puppy neighbors say they've heard barking since last Wednesday. Sunbelt Rentals donated a back hoe to dig and project halo brought a search and rescue dog to sniff for the pup. "He picks up a live scent or a deceased scent and right now, what he's picking up is a live scent," Danielle Devito, a volunteer. With that glimmer of hope, they keep the search going. Some volunteers were even willing to camp out in the yard overnight. Mike the Plumber has been in the yard almost 24 hours. He's donating his services and snaking a camera underground. "Last night at 11, we clearly heard the dog bark. We've done everything we can do. We're digging where we thought the dog was. We've checked every line to make sure to puppy's not in there," said Mike Devito, owner of Mike the Plumber. Homeowners Ashish and Emily Majamundar have never heard the dog bark, but they are allowing people to dig up their yard. "I think we've done everything we could do humanly speaking. We've dug everything up and there's just no indication," said Majamundar. His guess- the puppy found a way out or it's just that hard to catch. The volunteers are determined to find the puppy. While the digging has stopped, the homeowners say they'll listen out for the animal overnight. |
