Sikh Community Partners with CMPDCHARLOTTE, N.C.--Charlotte's Sikh community is reaching out to CMPD for safety. Police Chief Rodney Monroe met with worshipers at their North Charlotte temple today. They're mapping out ways to protect the congregation. Last week a Wisconsin gunman killed six people at a Sikh temple. Temple leaders say Sikh worshipers have been targeted since the 9/11 attacks. The community wants to keep an open dialog with police. The Sikh congregation is preparing to send a hate-crime pledge to President Obama. Leaders hope to bring more awareness to the local Sikh community. One week after the deadly shooting spree, the Sikh temple in Oak Creek hosted a special Sunday service. About 100 people took part in a traditional Sikh cleaning and rebirth ceremony. It symbolizes a fresh start. Usually, the temple only holds it once a year in April. Two of the people who were hurt in the shooting remain in the hospital.
