Sorority Consultants Give Coeds New Way To Beat Rush

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Patricia Grant's Rush Biddies hopes to make trying to find a sorority a little less daunting for young women across the country. "You would do extra work to be prepared and that is basically how we could approach this," said Grant. Grant said her help with resumes, wardrobe, and etiquette skills will give extra confidence to women during sorority rush.

Some U.N.C. Charlotte freshmen aren't so sure. "I feel it's like a personal choice and something you're gonna want to do for yourself and its not really something you can get someone's opinion on," said UNC Charlotte student Caitlyn Young.

"Sorority sisters are supposed to be close friends and they're supposed to like you for who you are. I feel like if they don't want you in their sorority, that's their personal opinion and you  shouldn't take it personally," said UNC Charlotte Student Shanna Beeble.

UNC Charlotte said 384 women signed up for rush earlier this month. Of those, they say 279 were selected to join the 6 sororities on campus, a success rate of 72 percent.

UNC Charlotte's Director of Greek Life said a sorority consultant isn't necessary, "It just seems superficial and inappropriate and not really relevant to the foundation to what sorority and fraternity life is," said Michelle Guobadia.

Miriam Stone disagreed. She said it helped her daughter get into her top choice house at Auburn University. "She had all the items in place," she said.

A Rush Biddies workshop is scheduled for October. It costs 100 dollars per mother-daughter duo.
