CHARLOTTE, NC- As repairs to the June 20th roof collapse continue at SouthPark, additional crews are fixing a new problem.

According to a mall spokesperson, a contractor was performing maintenance on a parking deck between Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus MOnday when a piece of concrete fell and caused minor damage to a car.

"It's really scary. I live right here and I'm at SouthPark all the time," said Katie Ferguson, a South Charlotte resident.

This isn't the first parking deck incident at the mall. In 2007, a woman lost control of her car, slammed into the side of the parking deck and died. Her car fell down onto the third level and smash two other vehicles.

"I definitely won't be using the garages anymore. It's just scary with the water and collapsing. I'll definitely switch to the street lots," said Kathryn Crafts, a South Charlotte resident.

Crafts is still worried about the roof collapse during a nasty storm on June 20 and says this minor incident raises more concerns.

"It's just a little alarming as a SouthPark shopper to come to the mall not really knowing where to park and even with the flooding situation, it's a little scary to be inside. I've already been concerned about mold," said Crafts.

Other shoppers say the roof and parking deck problems are just  unfortunate events.

"It could have been construction or something falling off over time. But either way, I trust Simon Properties. They're very good," said James Hale, a South Charlotte resident.

"I feel kind of bad because it's really bad luck. But, hopefully, things will turn around for them," said Ferguson.

The parking deck involved in Monday's incident has reopened.

As for the roof collapse, more than 15 stores remain closed as crews make repairs.
