Summer Heat Burns Up Area CropsCHARLOTTE NC -- Our summer heat seems to be burning up crops in our area, leaving farmers with slim pickings of fruits and vegetables. The Regional Farmers Market in South Charlotte is feeling the effects. Fruits like cantaloupes are hard to come by because the heat burns up the buds. The corn crop is also suffering. Farmers say the heavy rain we've had lately came too late. The heat has also forced growers to raise their prices because they have so little to choose from in the fields. |
