Teachers Rally for Education Funds
CHARLOTTE, NC -- More money for teacher pay. That was the rallying cry heard outside the Government Center Wednesday night. Teachers rallied ahead of Wednesday's county budget public hearing. CMS asked the county for an additional $46 million. The County Manager's proposal would only fund $26.8 million of that.
"A lot of teachers and staff are either changing to other professions, or their actually leaving the state to go into neighboring states where salaries are better and incentives are a little higher," said Rob Aitchison of Allenbrook Elementary School.
"We love our kids and we work really, really hard and we really, really believe that it's time for the teachers to get their raise. We need it," said Dwanna McNeely of Ridge Road Middle School.
County Commissioners will adopt the budget for the 2015 fiscal year next Tuesday.
