A 15-year old boy is in police custody for attacking a female classmate who did not want to go on a date with him.

The Huntersville Police Department charged the juvenile with Attempted First Degree Murder when he lured his 14-year old female classmate into the woods behind North Mecklenburg High School and then proceeded to attack her on Tuesday.

A CMS spokeswoman says the incident happened after school hours and parents have been informed that an incident took place.

The School Resource Officer received a call in reference to a student on the school campus that needed medical attention on Wednesday. The victim told first responders that she was attacked and someone tried to kill her.

The victim reported that the suspect wanted to show her something in the woods, but instead knocked her to the ground and began strangling her while wearing gloves. The suspect punched her in the head and face, then strangled her to the point of unconsciousness. After reporting the incident, the victim was transported to Presbyterian Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

During the investigation, police were able to identify a suspect and take him into custody for questioning. He is currently being held at a Juvenile Detention Facility.

Anyone with information concerning this crime, or anyone requesting more information, should contact Deputy Chief Kee at 704-464-5400.
