West Charlotte - Khalil Cousart was about to start the eight grade. His friend Tonio Stinson just talked to him two days ago. Stinson says, "He was a good kid, a great kid, I'm gonna miss him a lot. The last thing he said was I want to go to back to school and play basketball, and that dream has been taken away from him."

Thirteen year old Cousart was shot and killed early Tuesday morning, outside this church at the corner of Tuckaseegee Road and Parway Avenue in West Charlotte. Mary Haggins saw police and abulance rush to the scene. Haggins says, "They really need to stop the killings, they really do."

Police charged sixteen year olf Damien Wright with the murder. It's his fourth arrest this year. The other ones were for weapons and drug charges. Cousart's family says Wright may have been trying to shoot someone else, and their loved one got caught in the crossfire. Cousart's stepmom Lakeshea Cousart says, "We couldn't believe it, cause he didn't even get to live his life, it was just beginning."

Back in May, Cousart's dad Nakio Cousart was shot and killed in Grier Heights. Now this community had to mourn the loss of a father and son. A young life, taken too soon. Stinson says"He was more than a 13-year old, he was our 13 year old."
