Charlotte--Dog owners in Davidson can no longer leave dogs restrained by chains or cables when nobody is around. The town banned a practice called tethering earlier this week. The Humane society says tethered dogs become aggressive, territorial and dangerous. Experts say eliminating tethering reduces animal abuse in the form of dog fightingbecause dogfighters often use the chains for training.
Davidson is one of more than 100 communities in more than 30 states that have passed laws that regulate tethering. There are no state laws that regulate tethering in North Carolina. |
