Thieves Want Your Cell Phone, Not Your Wallet
CHARLOTTE, NC - Software technician Adam Davis says it takes less than five minutes for a thief to steal your identity. David says, "A person can stand beside your purse for three or four minutes and catch all the information they can." And now, thieves want their hands on your cell phone, not your wallet. Davos says, "They have access to your identity, your banking account, recent flights that you've been on , trips." Thieves are targeting you two ways. They are accessing personal info on your phone like your bank account number or credit card number, or they are scanning your device from their laptop and getting your personal information over un-secure wi-fi networks. Experts say if you wrap your cell phone in aluminum foil, it makes it harder for thieves to access your information. The foil blocks any radio frequencies making it harder for someone to steal your identity. It does stop identity thieves from scanning your phone. Consumers tell us they've found ways to keep their information secure. And while a password may slow down a thief, experts say if they're good enough, they'll crack it eventually. Davis suggests making sure you only download reputable apps and make sure you don't stay logged in when you aren't using your phone.
