UNION COUNTY, NC --A local man was killed after he ran a red light and collided with another vehicle.

Union County Highway Patrol say the accident happened around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of NC Highway 200 and NC Highway 218.

They say 62-year-old Richard Simpson, owner of Simpson's Egg Farm in Monroe, ran a red light and crashed into a truck that was heading through the intersection.

Troopers say Simpson was not wearing a seat belt. No one else was injured in the crash.

This is the second accident of the year at that intersection.
