CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Food left cooking on a stove caused an apartment fire that killed two dogs. 

Firefighters were called to a complex on Monroe Road in east Charlotte Sunday afternoon. 

All of the people who live there got out safely.  Firefighters rescued six other dogs.
