UN Approves Sanctions Against Boko Haram
CHARLOTTE, NC -- The United Nations proves it's not taking the kidnapping of nearly 300 Nigerian school girls lightly. A UN committee approved sanctions against Boko Haram Thursday. The militants are accused of abducting the girls last month and carrying out a wave of deadly attacks.
Charlotte residents continue to show support for the families of the missing students, holding a #BringBackOurGirls rally in Marshall Park Thursday night. It's part of a global march held Thursday.
"The reason why we're doing this today is to bring more awareness to show people we do care on the US soil, all the way to Nigeria," said activist Kevin Winston.
Eighty members of the US Air Force have deployed to Nigeria and are assisting with the search efforts.
