UNCC Student Creates iPhone App That Helps Predict Grades
Charlotte, NC - UNCC junior Christian Billings says, “I know right before my test what I gotta go and what I gotta do to just nail it."
Billings has a secret weapon to make the grade, “I get it more accurate with this, honestly than my professors."
It's called the Grades 2 app and it was designed by one of his classmates.
UNCC junior Jeremy Olson says, “I've needed the app a lot."
Olson is the brains behind Grades 2.
He got the inspiration a couple years ago after a poor performance on a statistics test, “I was like how on Earth am I going to recover."
Olson created the original Grades app, and sold it for $1 per download.
But it didn't take him long to realize the new version should be free, and make it's money through advertising.
Olson says, “It's not just being paid when people download the app, it's being paid when people use the app."
Olson's brother Josh jumped in to design the new look and help with marketing.
The UNCC senior says, “This industry is really a fantastic industry to be in right now. This is really where it's at."
In less than a week Apple featured the application and the rest was history.
Olson says, “It got about 50,000 downloads in the last week."
Getting the app is pretty easy. You go to the App Store, search for Grades 2 then just click to download. It's available for your iPhone or your iPod Touch.
The app lets you plug in your current grades, then calculates what you need to score for the rest of class to pass or excel.
Fllow students love the idea...
Tahji Kaigler is a UNCC freshman, “It's a lot more convenient than trying to calculate it myself."
Fellow freshman Christian Sjoberg says, “It's really nice to have something to keep track of it."
Christian Billings says ultimately, it's about that final grade, “From big tests to small assignments, just like little quizzes it helps you out a lot."
Olson intentionally launched the iPhone app to coincide with final exams.
He says right now every student is thinking about their grades.
