Violent Crimes Rise In Char-Meck

CHARLOTTE,NC--In 2012 crime was on the rise in Charlotte Mecklenburg with violent crime jumping more than 9.5% last year.

New stats from CMPD show robberies up 11.5%, property crime up 1.8% and rapes up 3.8%.

Police Chief Rodney Monroe blames repeat offenders for the spike in these crimes.

Reports say 52 people were killed this year compared to 55 in 2011, pushing homicides down more than 5%.
