Charlotte, N.C.--Dave Chavoustie has lived in the Steel Creek subdivision near Lake Wiley for six years. "We love the peacefulness, the serenity, the openness, its a great community," he said.

Chavoustie and more than 200 of his neighbors are part of a group called, "Save Lake Wylie Coves". The group is worried a rezoning proposal could alter their surroundings. It aims to rezone 319 acres of a nearby development called Chapel Cove.

"We are not against the development. We are against the development that they are trying to do to dramatically increase the density of houses along the cove and the social impact that will have."

Save Lake Wylie Coves says the rezoning could strain roads, schools and the environment. They say they are already concerned about the critical watershed and the protected area that surrounds Lake Wylie. "Its a great community and people want to see it as beautiful and as pristine as it is,"
Chavoustie said.

The developer, Crescent Resources, didn't return our request for comment.
