Drinking Sodas Could Contribute to DepressionCHARLOTTE, NC--Did you know that drinking to many sodas or sweetened drinks can lead to depression? In a new prospective study, researchers discovered people who drink sweetened beverages have a higher risk of depression, suicidal thoughts and mental distress than those who don't. The research found that you are actually 30% more likely to develop depression if you drink more than 4 cans of soda a day, 38% if you drink four cans of fruit punch, and the risk was greater for those who drank diet sodas. The study does not prove or disprove the effects of sugar drinks, but merely highlights correlations between the two. Although doctors say frequent consumption of these types of beverages should be avoided.
