New Poll Shows Americans Are Split Over George Zimmerman Verdict

by Casie Kolbinsky

A new poll has shown U.S. citizens are split about the verdict of George Zimmerman.

About 86 percent of African Americans opposed Zimmerman's acquittal in the killing of Trayvon Martin, according to a Pew Research Center survey. However, the poll also showed the majority of the nation's whites agreed with the jury's decision.

Zimmerman is also receiving attention after authorities have credited him with helping a family escape from a car after the vehicle flipped over last week in Sanford, Fla. Zimmerman left after he spoke with a deputy on the scene.
