Seattle Raises Minimum Wage to 15 Dollars Per Hour

SEATTLE, WA -- The city of Seattle is raising its minimum wage to $15 an hour.  The plan goes into effect next April.  It will phase in over three to seven years depending on the size of the business.   Washington already has the highest state minimum wage at $9.32 an hour.

Fast food workers in Charlotte and across the country have held strikes, pushing for a $15 minimum wage.  A congressional report estimates a national minimum wage increase could pull 900,000 people out of poverty, but end up putting half a million people out of work.
