Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl Back in U.S.
SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl is at an army hospital in San Antonio preparing for a long recovery. Military officials say Bergdahl is in stable condition and can walk.
Besides psychological healing, he's re-learning language skills. It's no small feat, considering he wasn't allowed to speak English for five years.
Much of his homecoming is still overshadowed by his controversial disappearance. "My biggest fear is that he won't be given enough time to really make that adjustment to really understand the media sensation around him," said SERE psychologist Col. Bradley Poppen.
Bergdahl has chosen not to speak with his parents. Military officials say it's up to him to make the phone call. There's no timeline for how long he'll be kept in San Antonio.
