NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina National Guard unit is preparing to head to Kuwait as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported (http://bit.ly/LgpQK4 ) about 80 members of the 875th Engineer Company were honored with a ceremony Sunday at Wilkes Community College.
The company based in North Wilkesboro will build and maintain roads and work on other construction projects for the next nine months.
Many of the soldiers deployed to Iraq in 2005. Kyle Turner has been deployed twice previously and says experience doesn't make the deployment any easier.
The unit leaves Wednesday for training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. It will then head to Kuwait in mid-July.
