Jacksonville urges keeping Onslow offices downtown
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Jacksonville Mayor Sammy Phillips is urging the Onslow County Commissioners to keep county government offices downtown.
The Daily News of Jacksonville reports (http://bit.ly/Ne9NeF ) the commissioners meet Monday to vote on building a county government complex in Burton Park. But the mayor says doing so will hurt efforts to revitalize downtown Jacksonville.
City officials say county staff agreed to keep offices downtown in exchange for the city changing downtown zoning and trading a piece of property with the county. But county officials say if an agreement was made, it was verbal and that the county isn't obligated by it.
Phillips says on his Facebook page that the county is trying to push the move through before anyone can react to it.
