Peace University admits 1st class with menRALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Men are now among the new students moving into the formerly all-female Peace College in Raleigh, which also has a new name: William Peace University. WRAL-TV reported (bit.ly/SBvBBq) that men comprise about a third of the class that moved in Saturday and Sunday. It's the first class to be admitted since the all-women's Peace College was renamed and men were allowed to register as full-time students. The sudden decision last summer to end the school's 155-year-old focus on educating women brought opposition from alumnae. Peace University President Debra Townsley says the university is moving past that controversy. ___ Information from: WRAL-TV, http://www.wral.com |
