Hokies looking for improved play from secondaryThe youngest unit on Virginia Tech's defense is the secondary. It's where the Hokies can least afford injuries, and where they count on the leadership — and availability — of cornerbacks Kyle Fuller and Antone Exum to help their young teammates. Yet, those two veterans made the glaring mistakes in the Hokies' 27-24 loss to Cincinnati last week. Fuller let the Bearcats' Damon Julian get behind him for a 39-yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds to go, and Exum was called for four major penalties and missed a key tackle. The Hokies (3-2, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) will need to be better on the back end Saturday when they play at pass-happy North Carolina (3-2, 0-1) to begin their push toward an Atlantic Coast Conference title. |
