NC woman sentenced for hit-and-run deathHENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A Hendersonville woman has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the hit-and-run death of a man earlier this year. The Times-News of Hendersonville reported (http://bit.ly/V6mfxY) that 24-year-old Morgan Bishop entered the plea Tuesday after originally being charged with first-degree murder. Investigators say Bishop killed her live-in boyfriend, 45-year-old Roger Stuart Moody, with her car June 29 in East Flat Rock. Bishop was sentenced to between three-and-a-half and five-and-a-half years in prison. She will get credit for the nearly six months she has been in jail. Defense attorney Greg Newman called the death tragic and accidental. Newman says the couple had argued and Moody had walked away from the house and Bishop got in her car and went to look for him and struck him in the middle of the road. ___ Information from: Times-News, http://www.blueridgenow.com |
