NEW BERN, N.C. (AP) — A 24-year-old New Bern mother faces several felony charges in the death of her 6-year-old daughter in a car crash last month.

The Sun Journal of New Bern reports (http://bit.ly/121496y ) that Amber Sandvig was arrested Thursday night and charged with felony death by motor vehicle, two counts of felony child abuse and other charges.

Authorities say Sandvig's daughter died and she and her 2-year-old son were serious injured when she drove into the other lane on a Craven County road on Feb. 22 and hit another car head on. Investigators say tests found the painkiller oxycodone in Sandvig's blood.

Sandvig's father told the newspaper her daughter became addicted to painkillers after nerve problems caused her to suffer back and leg pain.

It wasn't known if Sandvig had a lawyer.
