Ex-NC professor selling collections to feed hungry
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A former college professor in North Carolina is selling his collections to raise money to feed the hungry.
The Fayetteville Observer reported (http://bit.ly/Za7fS2 ) that Jeff Allen has spent years going through garage sales, estate sales and thrift shops.
The 69-year-old Allen says he feels it's his purpose to feed the hungry. He's selling items to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank, which serves a seven-county area.
Allen is selling a pristine copy of Life magazine from 1941 with Gen. George Patton on the cover.
He also has a Fayetteville Theatre's program for director D.W. Griffith's 1915 silent movie "The Birth of a Nation." There also are more than 700 Fayetteville postcards.
Allen plans to begin selling items later this month.
