NC woman's condition improves after VA bus crash

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The condition of a North Carolina woman seriously injured when a charter bus overturned in Virginia is improving.

A spokesman for Norfolk General Hospital says Theresa Watson was upgraded to fair condition on Saturday.

Watson had been in critical condition following the Friday crash in Capron. Her husband, 58-year-old Doval Emmanuel Watson of Chapel Hill was killed after being ejected from the bus.

Authorities say the bus from North Carolina was carrying a group of students to a college open house at Hampton University when the driver lost control and the bus ran off the road and overturned in a ditch. Six passengers ranging from ages 13 to 17 escaped injury.

Police charged the driver, 62-year-old Larry Brocks of Raleigh, with reckless driving. Seattle-based Horizon Coach Lines owns the bus.
