WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina man has been sentenced to four consecutive life sentences without parole.
The StarNews of Wilmington reports (http://bit.ly/Zqv2NP ) that the sentence was handed down by a New Hanover County judge on Thursday in the case of 37-year-old Harold Goins Jr.
A day earlier, a jury found Goins guilty of kidnapping, rape, sexual offense and assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities say he raped a female cousin in 2010, five days after being released from serving 11 years in prison for a throat slashing in 1996.
Goins is currently serving 15 years in federal prison on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection with the rape case. The sentences handed down Thursday won't start until that term is done.
