SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (AP) — Services are coming together for the late North Carolina Gov. Jim Holshouser.
A state legislator from Holshouser's home county of Moore says the former governor's funeral will be Friday at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines. Rep. Jamie Boles is a funeral director serving the Holshouser family.
Holshouser died Monday at a Pinehurst hospital at age 78. He was the first Republican elected North Carolina governor in the 20th century and just the third since 1901.
Holshouser was born in the mountains and served many years in the General Assembly before getting elected governor in 1972. He served one four-year term during an era when Democrats dominated state government and the legislature.
Boles says visitation will be held at the church Thursday evening.
