RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina company is expanding its weeklong summer camps for children of wounded or fallen military veterans.
Almost 250 kids are expected to attend camps sponsored by Raleigh-based Golden Corral Corp. that open Sunday at 4-H properties in Ellerbe near Southern Pines and in Columbia on the Albemarle Sound.
Another version of Camp Corral kicks off in early August in Swannanoa.
Camp Corral is a nonprofit that comes out of a restaurant franchise's drive to help American veterans and their families. The camps for military kids are in their third year, and there will be 18 camps in 14 states coast to coast.
Families are only responsible for transportation to and from the camps, which offer days full of canoeing, swimming, fishing, arts, ropes courses, archery and horseback riding.
